Record of paper contracts, 1884-1904; 1906-1912.

Record is of paper purchased from paper companies and distributed to printing companies and occasionally state agencies. For each order entries include name and address of company, number of reams and type of paper purchased, dates of order and receipt, contract year, order number, unit price of paper, and occasional total cost of order. Also included is a record of paper received from the paper companies by the printing companies. Entries include name of company or state agency, number of reams and type of paper received, date of order, contract year, and order number. After 1909 also included is Printer Expert's memorandum number.

The position of Printer Expert was created in 1872 to prepare specifications for print bids, read proof, measure work, estimate the quantity of paper required for each job, and examine state printing accounts (L. 1871, p. 613). The Printer Expert was under the supervision of the Secretary of State but not subject to his orders.
